Samsung SGH-A737 Review
The Samsung SGH-A737 is a mid range phone that is designed with the hip teenager or twenty to thirty year old market in mind. With its attractive slider style and its variety of color choices, the Samsung SGH-A737 is perfect for anyone who is looking to turn heads with their cell phone. However, unlike so many of the highly stylish phones we see on the market these days, the Samsung SGH-A737 is missing a lot of those ultra high tech features that we’ve come to know and love.
As a quad band GSM phone, the Samsung SGH-A737 can be used almost anywhere in the world where you can get reception. Furthermore, the Samsung SGH-A737 can upload and download data at blazing speeds via the 3G UMTS/HSDPA network--but only in America. It is limited to slower speeds in other countries.
For a phone that looks so small, the Samsung SGH-A737 is surprisingly robust. It measures in at approximately four inches by two inches by a half an inch thick and weighs 90 grams.
Despite the larger form factor of the Samsung SGH-A737, the battery life is tragically short. Expect to get only three hours of talk time or 10 days of standby time on a single charge. If you are going anywhere, even on a day’s trip, with this phone, you will definitely want to bring a charger along. Start watching videos, taking pictures, or listening to music, and you may be lucky to get even an hour of talk time out of that battery.
The Samsung SGH-A737’s screen is pretty decent, measuring 176 by 220 pixels. It can also show as many as 262k colors. Not bad for watching a short video, but certainly not the best in its class.
Like most of the other hip and stylish phones of today, the Samsung SGH-A737 is loaded with features that young people will enjoy. There is a 1.3 megapixel camera that can also capture video, a media player for music and videos, expandable memory via microSD card, Bluetooth support, a speakerphone, and a variety of phonebook related functions.
Pros
- Attractive
- Plenty of features for the average teenager
- 3G support
Cons
- Terrible battery life
- No real high end features to set it apart from the pack
Overall
The Samsung SGH-A737 is all about style over substance. The design is easily one of the most attractive in the industry, but the battery life renders the phone practically useless. Its unfortunate, as the Samsung SGH-A737 would definitely have been a winner otherwise.
